COMIC BOOK YETI THIS WEEK: Feb 27-Mar 5
Well, single issues costs are about to go through the roof. F*!@.
Hey friends,
It looks like we are back here on Substack. After looking at the options, we tried EmailOctopus and ultimately because my wife is a remote federal employee and her job situation is tenuous at best, we have to cut all unnecessary expenses and Substack remained the only free option and is the best mechanism to spread the comics good news so here we are. Not my desire but needs must at times. The joys of the modern comics journalism outlet in 2025. Enough insider baseball though, there was a slew of new release info and March is off with a bang on the podcast. Jimmy dropped his first March Marvel Madness episode with Tony Fleecs talking about his new project The Thing and some Local Man, Stray Dog, Feral, and the typical sandwich chat, and my first Women In Comics Feature episode celebrating Women’s History Month is out this Friday with Josie Campbell. Make sure to subscribe wherever you get your podcasts or on YouTube.
I’m personally very curious how the new tariff announcement will hit our little industry, especially with the printing costs of floppies. If you have thoughts, let me know. It’s going to be an interesting year for the direct market for sure.
Thanks as always for your continued support.

ON THE PODCAST
Paul Tobin and PJ Holden Interview - Dark Pyramid
Horror is one of my favorite genres and I’ve often heard horror creators on the show talk about avoiding a modern setting in their work. How do you deal with technology, cell phones, and social media? It’s way easier to just drop it in the nostalgia of the 80s before much of that happened and we’ve seen an explosion of popular IPs set in the era of Pac Man and MTV, but what if you had a horror story with a social media influencer as the protagonist putting their experience front and center in front of a live worldwide audience? That’s the hook of the new five issue mini-series Dark Pyramid from Mad Cave Studios and I’m lucky enough to have co-creators Eisner Winning comics writer Paul Tobin and his extraordinary artist accomplice PJ Holden to tell us all about it on today's episode.
MARCH MARVELS: Tony Fleecs Interview - The Thing
Jimmy did DC December and now he's kicking off Marvel March Madness. Tony Fleecs returns to the podcast and he and Jimmy cover a lot of ground. They discuss Stray Dogs, Feral, Local Man, Army of Darkness Forever, Uncanny Valley, and of course the upcoming The Thing! Tony talks about the Feral world tour road trip, playing with zombie tropes, the magic that makes Uncanny Valley work, and pitching story ideas for The Thing. Plus Tony digs into the notion that maybe drawing all those wonderful My Little Pony comics left him with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. There's no shortage of comics to read if you're a fan of Tony's work but be sure to add The Thing to your pull list before it comes out on May 21st.

THE HERCULOIDS FROM DYNAMITE COMICS
Building on the success of the critically acclaimed and bestselling Space Ghost series, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to bring another beloved Hanna-Barbera classic to readers this February — The Herculoids!
Hidden in the furthest reaches of space, the planet of Amzot is legendary for its fabled riches — and for the terrible fates that befall anybody who seeks to exploit them...
Those who survive their encounters tell blood-chilling tales of horrific, imposing monsters that guard the mysterious world — yet the lure of its abundant resources is too great to resist. Raiders and pirates continue to come from across the galaxy, and there is only one force strong enough to stop their constant attacks — The Herculoids!
But as strong as these defenders are, a recent battle may have pushed Amzot to its limits — and awakened a sleeping darkness within the planet itself!
I saw this maybe two months ago when I interviewed writer TOM SNIEGOSKI about it and love where they are taking the development of the old beloved Hanna Barbara characters. As a huge fan of the original show, there just wasn’t much in the way of an actual explanation for why people kept wanting to invade the planet Amzot. Tom covers that from the jump in issue one and artist CRAIG ROUSSEAU clearly has a deep level of understanding and respect for the original ALEX TOTH designs.
Also, none of the new Dynamite reinterpretations of the classic cartoons look the same. They all have their own different blueprints making each drop exciting while bringing them into the modern era.

What would I buy for the Week of 03/05/2025 if I had $5.
A great jumping on point featuring a lot of characters
that don’t normally get paired together.
A comic about characters from a cartoon from the 1960s.
A world that hasn’t really had much exploration.
I’ve been a fan of Damien’s work and I can guarantee
this won’t disappoint.
NICE HOUSE BY THE SEA #6 (OF 12)
The middle of this maxi-series there will probably
be some big moments here.
If I had $20
BONE PARISH COMPLETE COLLECTION TP
I’ve never read this but a full 12 issue series for $20 is really hard to pass up.
If I had $50
DC FINEST PLASTIC MAN THE ORIGIN OF PLASTIC MAN TP
38 comics about Plastic Man in the 40s seems like a great deal for a cool character
ELFQUEST ORIGINAL QUEST HC VOL 01
I’ve never read this series but I’ve heard good things and looks worth taking a shot on.
