This year is flying by and there have been some amazing comics projects released recently. Take a gander down below and catch up on a few great Cryptid Creator Corner podcast episodes.
David Dastmalchian is a mainstay in comics movies and tv shows. You've seen him in Dune, Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Suicide Squad, The Dark Knight... it's a long list. Recently he has turned his creative energy into a new project with Dark Horse Comics called Count Crowley, an homage to creature features in 80s cinema. Byron got a chance to catch up with David to hear about some of his inspirations behind the project, his own reflections on addiction through the lens of the main character in the book, and even worked in an acting related question about Byron’s hometown of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. David was one of the most enthusiastic and warm guests I've ever hosted on the show. Check it out and make sure to pick up both collected volumes of Count Crowley in stores now.
What an episode we have for you today here at the Comic Book Yeti Cryptid Creator Corner! It's David Hazan, writer of Mad Cave Studios series NOTTINGHAM, the brand new MONOMYTH also from Mad Cave Studios, and the upcoming DEATH DROP: DRAG ASSASSIN from Scout Comics. David and Jimmy chat about all these great comics, how he got his start writing comics, and they even get to chat a little about the practice of law in Australia! What? Another lawyer/comic writer? This is a fantastic conversation that I know you'll enjoy.
Byron was super excited to welcome comics writer Greg Lockard to the Yeti Cave. His graphic novel Liebestrasse was a personal favorite in 2022 so when he heard about his new Comixology original graphic novel project, Trick Pony, he knew he wanted to have him on the show to chat about it. The longline, "a washed-up rodeo star heads home to visit his father in the hospital. While on the road he confronts the mistakes of his past and the monsters of his present" really can't encapsulate at all what Jimmy Thomas gets up to on this crazy ride. The influences are varied, including weaving in a good bit of visual tapestry from the Wizard of Oz, but this goes in exciting and unexpected directions. Make sure to check it out on Comixology.
Today's guest is artist and writer Ray Nadine. They have created a graphic novel that Jimmy absolutely adored. Light Carries On is being published by Dark Horse. It's a supernatural romance that "balances out themes of trauma, grief, and toxic relationships with radical empathy, queer joy, and healing." This is a fantastic conversation and Light Carries On is a comic you are not going to want to miss!
