February marks the one year anniversary of The Cryptid Creator Corner podcast. Woohoo! Jimmy and Byron are ramping it up in Year Two, bringing you the best interviews from the world of indie comics and beyond. ICYMI, we have compiled this month’s highlights into one quick catch-up for you.
Mowing the lawn (yep, it’s that time again), getting the kids to school or practice, or prepping dinner, we know you are busy. So just hit PLAY and take a comics break with us.
Jimmy chats with CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Mad Cave Studios Mark London about his new series, Hunt. Kill. Repeat. Mark talks about his inspiration for this new series and working with this exciting creative team, including artist Francesco Archidiacono. Mark and Jimmy also discuss Mark's work as CEO & Chief Creative Officer of Mad Cave Studios, his love of action films, balancing his corporate duties and creative endeavors, and what listeners can expect from Mad Cave Studios in the future.
Byron got a chance to talk to Jude Ellison Doyle about their new horror series coming out with BOOM! Studios called, The Neighbors. Jude is an incredible writer and has recently applied their talents moving from writing for outlets like Medium, to the world of comics. Packed with symbolism, Jude teamed up with artist Letizia Cadonici (House of Slaughter) and colorist Alessandro Santoro to examine parenting, identity, and community in this miniseries sure to leave everyone talking.
Jimmy chats with both Christopher Sebela and Ben Hennessy about their new Vault Comics series Godfell. Christopher and Ben dig into their collaboration about a warrior and her somewhat unwanted traveling companion making their way through the body of a fallen god. It’s an action-packed new series and this is a particularly illuminating chat about Christopher and Ben's process. After listening, be sure to check out Christopher's website and Ben's website for more awesome comics.
Comics royalty visited the show as Byron chats with creator Emma Kubert about her new Image Comics fantasy/adventure series, Stoneheart. I can't quite believe the work rate with Stoneheart, Inkblot, Radiant Pink, and Frank Miller presents Pandora all going right now and her still finding time to work as a teacher at the Kubert School. Whew! They chat a little bit about all those things and so much more.
Claire chats with Jimmy about the Zoop campaign (going live today 2/14/23) for The Magic Necklace. Claire's Twitter bio describes her in part as a "horror-romance cartoonist since birth" and there's no better pitch than that as to why you should listen to this episode and check out the Zoop campaign. I read The Magic Necklace in preparation for this interview and then immediately read it again. It is unexpected and, at times, challenging, and it made for a fantastic conversation. Be sure to check out Claire's website after the episode.
Now that you are all caught up, it sure would mean a lot to us if you’d take just a minute to like, subscribe, and/or leave us a short review. Yeah, it’s cliche, but it matters!
